StayVerde Declares a Climate Emergency.

Written by Andy Dosmann

StayVerde's mission is to help travelers who worry about the climate crisis, but don't want to stay home. As part of that mission, we have joined Tourism Declares Climate Emergency and are a signatory of the United Nation's Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. Read below to find out why, and what this means about StayVerde's commitment to climate action.

StayVerde educates travelers how to reduce their carbon footprint and we created a way for travelers to fund climate charities with one free click. StayVerde exists to make climate-friendly travel a reality, but we cannot do that alone. So we are joining other leaders in the travel industry to set collective goals, follow the guidelines of climate science, and set individual plans to take the necessary action for the tourism industry to do its part to reach Net Zero goals.

By posting the following declaration, we join hundreds of other companies taking action:

We declare our shared commitment to unite all stakeholders in transforming tourism to deliver effective climate action.

We support the global commitment to halve emissions by 2030 and reach Net Zero as soon as possible before 2050.

We will consistently align our actions with the latest scientific recommendations, so as to ensure our approach remains consistent with the rise of no more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by 2100.

As a signatory, StayVerde commits to:

  1. Deliver a climate action plan within 12 months of signing.

  2. Report publicly both progress against interim and long-term targets, as well as the actions being taken, at least annually.

  3. Align our plan with five shared pathways (Measure, Decarbonize, Regenerate, Collaborate, Finance) to ensure climate action is consistent across all of tourism.

  4. Share information on activities connected to Tourism Declares and the Glasgow Declaration among contacts and networks.

  5. Work in a collaborative and constructive spirit with other members of Tourism Declares and signatories of the Glasgow Declaration.

StayVerde's current progress since incorporating in the summer of 2022 includes $115.07 generated for climate causes (Finance Pathway), creation of our own flight carbon calculator (Measure Pathway), and multiple education sessions with dozens of travelers helping them learn how to travel with a smaller carbon footprint (Collaborate and Decarbonize Pathways).

Our detailed climate action plan will be posted here soon.
